Rebuilding the Ramparts: An American Realist Response to Cognitive War
Initiating the Strategic Defense of America’s Metaphysical Foundations

Abstract
This fifth white paper from the American Epistemology Institute initiates a formal doctrine and operational strategy for resisting the metaphysical and epistemic warfare campaign currently threatening the survival of the United States as a coherent polity. After establishing that America was founded on a realist metaphysical framework, the paper outlines the progressive subversion of these foundations through constructivist ideologies and institutional capture. It introduces AEI’s American Realist Evaluation System (ARES) as part of a structured fifth-generation warfare (5GW) response. AEI calls for a realist counteroffensive rooted in metaphysical stewardship, dialectical refusal, narrative inversion, and constructive revival. The time has come to name anti-American metaphysics explicitly and to act decisively to restore the realism that birthed and sustained the American order.
I. Introduction
The American Epistemology Institute (AEI) was founded to reclaim and preserve the metaphysical and epistemic foundations upon which the United States was built. In our previous white papers, we established the following core claims:
White Paper 1 traced the contours of America’s original epistemic backbone, rooted not in Enlightenment empiricism or consensus models, but in metaphysical realism, natural law, and the correspondence theory of truth.
White Paper 2 clarified the departure from that foundation by examining John Locke’s nominalism and empiricism, showing how his influence, while politically consequential, stood in tension with the realist metaphysics embedded in early American law, theology, and education.
White Paper 3 defined and recovered the original meanings of key terms such as "rights," "republic," "democracy," "natural law," and "religion" in light of their realist philosophical groundings, distinguishing them from their later constructivist reinterpretations.
White Paper 4 presented a ledger of ideological subversives—individuals and institutions responsible for the epistemic decay of the American mind. From Dewey to Derrida, a throughline of metaphysical sabotage was exposed.
Now, in White Paper 5, we move from diagnosis to strategy. This paper outlines a doctrine for resisting and reversing the metaphysical and epistemic assault against the American people. We present the framework for our counter-engagement, grounded not in dialectical entanglement, but in a deliberate return to realism as the basis of national coherence.
II. Foundations of the Original American Metaphysics
The American founding was not an act of raw will, democratic negotiation, or consensus-based governance. It was a covenantal instantiation of eternal, objective truths perceived through reason, conscience, and nature. Its philosophical underpinnings are best understood through:
Scottish Common Sense Realism (Reid, Witherspoon)
Classical Theism and Christian Rationalism
Thomistic Natural Law Theory
The legal realism of James Wilson
These traditions share a commitment to the idea that reality is intelligible, that truth corresponds to what is, and that human beings possess rational faculties capable of discerning moral and metaphysical order. Law, rights, and government are not products of social construction or evolving consensus, but are anchored in the created nature of man and the order of the cosmos.
III. The Mechanism and Consequences of Metaphysical Subversion
Through ideological infiltration and institutional subversion, anti-realist frameworks have worked to sever America from her metaphysical roots. These efforts have weaponized key concepts against us, using methods such as:
Pragmatism (truth as utility)
Constructivism (reality as socially negotiated)
Postmodernism (truth as power)
Administrative Pluralism (undermining unity through relativism)
The result is a people that have been forcefully unmoored from their heritage, their rights reduced to permissions, and public discourse flooded with incoherence to pave the way for a managed reality. This is now being augmented by the deployment of fifth-generation warfare (5GW) techniques (narrative control, perception shaping, psychological operations), thus enabling the metaphysical reprogramming of American consciousness. Stated unequivocally, we are in a new type of war that makes no distinction between soldier and civilian. This war has been waged using invisible weapons for generations and seeks to destroy our connection with reality. This campaign has incredible momentum, but as Vice Admiral James Stockdale stated when discussing his years as a tortured prisoner of war: “You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end — which you can never afford to lose — with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.”
IV. The American Realist Evaluation System (ARES)
To counter these overlapping campaigns, AEI is now initiating the American Realist Evaluation System (ARES). This program will evaluate:
Whether legislation, institutions, and cultural movements affirm or reject the original American metaphysics
The epistemic orientation of key actors and texts
The embedded metaphysical assumptions of dominant policy frameworks
This initiative marks the beginning of a disciplined 5GW-informed response. That said, our response is not reactive, nor framed within the dialectical logic of the enemy. We do not engage through provocation or emotional outrage. We engage through the authoritative clarity of metaphysical realism to dispel the fog of war and begin taking the initiative in the fight for the soul of our country.
V. Operational Doctrine: Strategic Realism
Our counteroffensive doctrine rests on the following principles:

Metaphysical Stewardship: We do not cede the language of truth to relativists. Reality is objective, and our right to speak the truth is not contingent on consensus.
Dialectical Refusal: We will not legitimize the constructed dialectical spaces of our opponents, as doing so legitimizes their metaphysics. We operate outside of their frame, not reacting to their provocations, as our reaction is the goal of their action.
Narrative Inversion: We reclaim the public narrative by identifying anti-American metaphysical structures explicitly and reasserting realist definitions.
Constructive Revival: We will build new realist institutions, cultivate realist curricula, and publish clear standards for evaluating metaphysical legitimacy.
Metaphysical Clarity: We will prioritize the identification and analysis of underlying metaphysical and epistemic claims, rather than engaging in debates over their downstream social or political effects.
VI. Tactical Objectives and Actions
Deploy Metaphysical Audits: Use the ARES framework to review federal legislation, state education standards, media campaigns, and institutional charters.
Publish Strategic Briefings: Expose the 5GW methods being used against the American public, naming not just tactics but the underlying metaphysical war.
Engage Civil Institutions: Introduce realist curricula into libraries, churches, and civic organizations with clear criteria and volunteer support.
Define Anti-Americanism Precisely: Do not allow the term to remain vague. Any actor or institution denying the objectivity of truth, morality, or human nature as created is, in principle, anti-American.
Reject False Goods: Pluralism, constructivism, democracy (as opposed to the republic), and consensus reality are to be rejected as replacements for the objective good. We will name them as such.
VII. Conclusion: The Return to Reality
The United States of America cannot survive the loss of its metaphysical grounding. Political debates, legal reforms, and policy shifts mean little if the epistemic ground has already been ceded. The American Realist tradition is our cultural, moral, and political inheritance. To rebuild the ramparts means to revive, teach, defend, and empower it anew—making it robust against the myriad assailants, campaigns, and movements aimed at hollowing out our national ethos. The AEI will not merely react. It will build. It will evaluate. It will assert.
The metaphysical war is not coming. It is here.
Our response begins now. God bless the People of the United States of America.
